Hello I am Sue. I have been interested in a BackHome Chapter since I purchased my first BackHome magazine #56 Jan/Feb 2002. I wanted to join a Chapter, however one was not available to me, so finally I decided to start one. I am striving to become more self-sustaining. I am eager to communicate with like-minded people in West Virginia! And the Mid Atlantic states too! I have a 24 acre parcel and a 6 acre parcel in southeastern West Virginia close to southwestern Virginia border. I also have a 4.59 parcel in West Virginia close to the border of WV – VA more to the northeastern part of the state. I homestead all these to some degree. So this is why I am open to people from PA, MD, VA and KY.

I have expierence with most all farm animals;cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, gease, turkey and rabbits. I do not raise all these animals all at the same time. Have a garden, can food and use a root cellar. Built electric fence. Have drawn water from a well with a bucket also. Have experience with cutting wood. Have passive solar heated cabin with summer cool air draft. I am into composting toilets, rainwater catchment, gray water irrigation/reuse, solar and wind energy. And more things will be added as I think of them.

Hello my name is Randy. I have just this month (January 2005)moved to Kentucky from Ohio. I have purchased 160 acres of land in Eastern Kentucky and plan to make it my home. I'm very interested in sustainable living, alternative
building, renewable energy and permaculture. I would like to network with others who have an interest in homesteading and sustainable living. I would like to offer knowledge I may have gained to others in this chapter, in addition to offering assistance with projects that you may have.

Liz from Virginia

I'm in Patrick County, southwest Virginia right down on the North Carolina line. I am working toward living off-grid, will be building a cordwood home in the next couple of years; want to connect with others with the same kinds of goals.

I need all the information on homesteading I can get. I enjoy bartering, since I always seem to be low on cash.

I have 3 children still with me and many animals. I enjoy gardening, building, and home schooling my 2 girls and just life in general in WV. I'm originally from NYC, but have lived here almost 12 yrs. I would like to barter my services for any advice or help with fixing things. I can baby sit, take care of animals, paint, take care of elderly, garden, mow, and I'm also a licensed massage therapist.

Tracie from West Virginia

I am Tracie, dh is Steve (we're both 41) and we have eight children ages 7 mos. to 20 yrs. old. We've home schooled and homesteaded since 1995 when we left Toledo, OH for a small farm in rural Michigan.

We came to WV in 2002 and bought a 25-acre farm in Barboursville. I can't tell you how much we love it here. I hope that this is our final earthly home.

We've raised nearly every kind of livestock there is in our 10 years of
living beyond the sidewalks...chickens, duck, guineas, turkeys, geese, rabbits, goats, cattle, deer and horses. Right now we're down to a couple dogs (Golden Retriever and Great Dane), a peacock, a Jersey calf, 4 goats and a Quarter horse.

We enjoy doing as much from scratch for ourselves as possible. I love
gardening, canning, sewing, spinning, soap making, woodworking, etc. Couldn't pick just one favorite, so I guess that's why I'm a homesteader.
